Covid tally in new outbreak crosses 90,000

The infection tally of Vietnam's new Covid-19 wave rose to 91,114 Sunday morning with 3,973 new cases added in 21 localities.

The new patients were recorded in HCMC ((2,328), the southern provinces of Binh Duong (881), Tien Giang (218), Dong Nai (134), Tay Ninh (127), Ben Tre (33), Can Tho (18), Tra Vinh (17), Kien Giang (17), Hau Giang (3), An Giang (2), Vinh Long (50), Binh Phuoc (6), Soc Trang (9); Da Nang (16) and the central provinces of Khanh Hoa (82), Phu Yen (14), Dak Nong (2), and Nghe An (1); Hanoi (11) and the northern province of Bac Ninh (4).

Of all the cases confirmed this morning, 3,051 are in quarantine zones and areas under lockdown and the remaining 922 were detected in the community with unclear sources of transmission.

Sunday is also the 90th day of the current wave, which has seen local infections recorded in 62 of Vietnam's 63 cities and provinces. HCMC is now the epicenter with 58,198 cases.

More than 4.1 million of the nation's 96 population have received their first Covid vaccine shots and 372,353 have received two shots.
