The number of Covid-19 fatalities and active cases is dropping substantially across Vietnam over a month into the "new normal," according to the health ministry.

From Oct. 11 to Nov. 19, when the country resumed many social and economic activities, over 105,500 new local Covid-19 cases were recorded across the country, the Ministry of Health reported in a Saturday meeting.

Compared to a month prior to this period, the number of local cases has risen by around 2.9 percent, but the number of deaths and severe cases have both dropped by 46 and 40 percent respectively, the ministry stated.

While the coronavirus situation has largely remained under control nationally, new local cases are surging in certain localities. The virus has already embedded itself in the community, more people are traveling from regions with outbreaks and many cases are either asymptomatic or could not be contact traced... all of which explain the infection surge, according to the ministry.

Outbreaks are mainly focused in areas with high population density, especially localities with high demand for trade and travel, it added.

Vietnam has vaccinated 66.1 million people with at least one Covid-19 jab, with 38.6 million fully vaccinated.
