A university in the northern province of Hai Duong has become the first to resume HSK Chinese-language certificate exams after a three-month countrywide suspension of the service.

As per a decision issued Monday by the Ministry of Education and Training, Thanh Dong University was granted permission to provide the testing in cooperation with Beijing-based Chinese Testing International (CTI).

The education ministry required the university to report its testing schedules to the Hai Duong Department of Education and Training at least five days before exam dates. The university must also report back to the ministry on its activities every six months.

The ministry is also evaluating whether or not two other institutions may be granted permission to hold the HSK exams – one in Hanoi and the other in Ho Chi Minh City.

HSK exams, along with several other foreign language certificate exams, were suspended in Vietnam earlier this year. The suspension of the tests only made headlines once the British Council and the IDP, which organize the IELTS, announced their own suspension of exams on November 10, although they were later resumed.

The HSK tests people’s proficiency in the Chinese language for purposes including studying or working abroad. Seven universities in Hue, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Da Nang and HCMC have issued the HSK test in Vietnam.
