An Giang police said they conducted a raid late Tuesday night and caught a group of people entering the province's Long Binh District illegally from Cambodia on a boat.
People boarding the boat escaped after they were detected, leaving several packages on board, in which police found 19 kg of gold.
The next day, two men aged 60 and 22 turned themselves in and admitted they had smuggled gold from Cambodia to Vietnam to sell at local shops in An Giang.
Police are expanding their investigation of the case.
The Cambodia–Vietnam border runs 1,158 km in length.
