7 workers killed, 3 injured in cement factory accident

Seven workers were killed and three injured at a cement factory in the northern province of Yen Bai, when a cement mill unexpectedly restarted during maintenance on Monday.

Tran Huy Tuan, chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Bai, announced that the tragic accident took place at 1:30 p.m. during routine maintenance on cement mill No. 3 at the Yen Bai Cement Factory, part of Yen Bai Cement and Minerals JSC.

An electrical motor malfunction in the mill was pinpointed as the initial cause. "The cement mill unexpectedly resumed operation while the workers were inside conducting repairs, resulting in seven deaths," explained a spokesperson from the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Yen Bai province.

Yen Bai Cement and Minerals JSC, holding a charter capital of VND118 billion ($4.63 million), engages in a wide range of activities including limestone extraction, cement production, and the mining, processing, and export of minerals.

The company also deals in the mining and trade of construction stone, real estate, civil construction, and goods transportation.
