A fire broke out in a house on Dinh Cong Thuong Street in Hanoi’s Hoang Mai District on Monday night, killing three people inside.

Le Tuan Phuong, who lives in the neighborhood, said he was at home when he heard a loud blast at around 9 p.m.

"I rushed to my roof and saw the house in Alley No.79 burst into flames. People came and tried to extinguish the fire with water but all attempts failed. The flames were about 10 meters high."

Around a dozen firefighters and police officers arrived at the scene and put out the fire by around 10:20 p.m., and found three bodies inside.

According to the police, two of the victims were a married couple aged around 27 living in Yen Thuy District in neighboring Hoa Binh Province.

The apartment was around 10 square meters in size and had a fiber cement roof.

The police found two burned motorbikes and a 12-kilogram gas cylinder at the scene.

The cause of the fire has yet to be identified but investigators said it might have been a gas cylinder explosion.
