16 detained for attacking police headquarters in Central Highlands

Police have arrested 16 people and rescued two hostages in the armed attacks at two police headquarters in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak that killed several officers and civilians.

Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security, said on Sunday afternoon police forces are continuing to search for other accomplices who joined the attacks.

"There are currently no hostages under control," said Xo, adding among the three hostages, one escaped on his/her own while the other two were rescued by the police.

A man living about 100 meters away from the police station of Ea Ktur Commune said that early Sunday morning, he heard many loud explosions and didn’t dare to go out.

On Sunday morning, an unidentified group of people used guns to attack the police headquarters in Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur Communes in Cu Kuin District, the ministry said.

The ministry has asked Dak Lak police and functional forces to search for and arrest other accomplices who joined the attacks.

Police officers recommend that people in Cu Kuin district and neighboring areas stay calm and comply with the requirements of local authorities and the police force.
