VN-Index starts week with 1.68% surge

Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index rose 1.68% to 1,241.58 points Monday.

The index closed 20.55 points higher after gaining 4.67 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 23% to VND20.887 trillion (US$822.7 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 28 tickers gained.

VJC of low-cost carrier VietJet Air saw the biggest growth of 7.0%, followed by GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group, up 6.1%, and MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World with a 4.7% increase.

Only two bluechips fell. HDB of private lender HDBank slid 0.6% while VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail went down 0.2%.

Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND243 billion, mainly buying MWG of Mobile World and MSB of private bank MSB.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 1.78%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.97%.
