Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index dropped 1.27% to 1,211.81 points Monday, lowest since August 29.

The index closed nearly 16 points lower after gaining close to 4 points Friday.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the index is based, dropped 8.8% to VND19.77 trillion.

The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 27 tickers fell.

VHM of property giant Vinhomes dropped 3.1%, followed by SAB of brewer Sabeco and VIB of Vietnam International Commercial Bank, both with a 2.8% decline.

VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail closed 2.5% lower.

SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation and STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank managed to rise 0.6% and 0.3% respectively.

Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND477 billion, mainly selling VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup and VRE.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, fell 0.9% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market dropped 0.63%.
