Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index fell 1.09% to 1,212.74 points Thursday.

The index closed 13.4 points lower after gaining 14.6 points Wednesday.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the index is based, rose 13% to VND23.02 trillion ($947.71 million).

The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 25 tickers dropped.

SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation lost 4.7%, followed by MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World with a 2.9% decline.

STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank dropped 2.7% and VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup closed 2.4% lower.

Foreign investors were net sellers for the fourth straight session to the tune of VND361 billion, mainly selling HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and KDH of real estate firm Khang Dien House.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, dropped 1.16% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market fell 1.03%.
