The index closed 3.36 points higher after gaining 6.80 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 36% to VND20.24 trillion ($836.54 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 17 tickers gained and 13 fell.
VJC of budget airline Vietjet rose 1.5%, followed by FPT of IT giant FPT Corporation, up 1.2%, and SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation, up 1.1%.
Eleven blue chips fell, including MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World with a 2.7% decline.
VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup dropped 1.4%.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND717 billion, mainly selling VPB of private lender VPBank and MWG.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.30%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went down 0.22%.
