VN-Index closes week with meager gain

Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index rose 0.73% to 1,102.16 points Friday after a week of fluctuating less than 10 points each day.

The index closed 8.03 points higher after dropping 8.67 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 17% to VND12.23 trillion ($503.23 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 23 tickers gained.

VJC of budget airline Vietjet led with a 3.3% rise, followed by VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail, up 3.2%.

SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation went up 2.2%, and BVH of insurance company Bao Viet Holdings rose 1.8%.

VHM of property giant Vinhomes was the only blue chip that closed in the red with a 1% decline.

Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND310 billion, mainly selling VHM and VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.05%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.16%.
