The index closed 2.60 points lower after dropping 4.53 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 27% to VND11.36 trillion ($461.55 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 16 tickers fell.
SAB of brewer Sabeco dropped 2.5%, followed by VIB of Vietnam International Commercial Bank with a 1.2% decline.
VIB of Vietnam International Commercial Bank lost 1.2% and BID of state-owned lender BIDV closed 1% lower.
Seven blue chips gained. MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World rose 1.8% and MSN of conglomerate Masan Group went up 0.9%.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND131 billion, mainly selling SAB of brewer Sabeco and DGC of Duc Giang Chemicals Group.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, was stable at 0% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market gained 0.04%.
