The index closed 3.03 points higher after gaining 12.77 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 25% to VND14.78 trillion ($608.23 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 16 tickers gained.
The top gainers included SAB of brewer Sabeco, up 1.6%, PLX of fuel distributor Petrolimex, up 1.3%, and SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation, up 1.1%.
Fourteen blue chips fell, including TPB of private TPBank with a 1.1% decline and VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail, down 1%.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND129 billion, mainly selling MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World and VHM of property giant Vinhomes.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.74%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.14%.
