The index closed 5.09 points higher after gaining 15.27 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 15% to VND21.12 trillion ($860 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 10 tickers gained and 20 fell.
VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail led with a 6% rise, followed by GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group, up 5.2%.
VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup gained 3.2% and VHM of property giant Vinhomes rose 1.3% higher.
Sixteen blue chips fell, including SHB of Saigon Hanoi Commercial Bank with a 1.3% decline.
Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND136 billion, mainly buying MSB of Vietnam Maritime Commercial Bank and VIX of VIX Securities Jsc.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.12%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.08%.
