The index closed 0.96 points higher after gaining 4.73 points on Monday.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) fell by 9.93% to VND16.76 trillion ($709 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 10 tickers gained.
Five banks led with TPB of private TPBank rising 3.8% and VPB of private lender VPBank increasing 2.4%.
STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank closed 1.6% higher and TCB of the largest private lender Techcombank went up 1.3%.
Seventeen blue chips fell.
NVL of property developer Novaland Group lost 2% and PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development closed 1.3% lower.
Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND406.37 billion, mainly buying VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk and VHM of property giant Vinhomes.
The HNX-Index at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, was unchanged while the UPCoM-Index at the Unlisted Public Companies Market was up by 0.24%.
