The index closed 4.42 points higher after dropping 10.42 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 13% to VND12.81 trillion ($525.61 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 20 tickers gained.
HDB of HDBank rose 3%, followed by MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World, up 2.7%.
HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group went up 2.3% and TCB of the largest private lender Techcombank closed 1.8% higher.
Six blue chips fell. MSN of conglomerate Masan Group dropped 1.1% and VHM of property giant Vinhomes closed 1% lower.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND453 billion, mainly selling EIB of private lender Eximbank and VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.68%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went up 0.25%.
