Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index remained at 1,175 points Monday after the weekend break.

The index closed 0.02 points higher after gaining 5.30 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 11% to VND14.28 trillion ($581.67 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 11 tickers gained.

GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group led with a 4.9% rise, followed by GAS of state-owned Petrovietnam Gas, up 1.9%.

SAB of brewer Sabeco closed 1% higher and BVH of insurance company Bao Viet Holdings went up 0.9%.

Fourteen blue chips fell. VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail dropped 1.9% and ACB of Asia Commercial Bank closed 1.3% lower.

Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND136 billion, mainly selling PC1 of construction firm PC1 Group and VNM of dairy giant Vinamilk.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, fell 0.17%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went down 0.11%.
