Stocks close week with marginal gain

Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index rose 0.06% to 1,103.06 points Friday.

The index closed 0.63 points higher after gaining 1.67 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 9% to VND12.25 trillion ($505.26 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw nine tickers gained.

STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank rose 2.3%, followed by GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group, up 1.8%.

BID of state-owned lender BIDV gained 1.6% and HDB of HDBank closed 1.1% higher.

Fourteen blue chips fell. BVH of insurance company Bao Viet Holdings and MSN of conglomerate Masan Group both dropped 1.1%.

Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND508 billion. They mainly net sold HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and VND of brokerage VNDirect.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, fell 0.09%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went down 0.03%.
