The U.S. dollar gained against the Vietnamese dong Tuesday morning.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND24,430, up 0.12% from Monday.

The State Bank of Vietnam raised its reference rate by 0.04% to VND23,941.

It went up 0.12% to VND24,770 on the black market.

The dollar has gained over the dong by 2.95% since the beginning of the year.

Globally, the yen nursed losses on Tuesday as traders walked back expectations for a Japan rate hike, while the dollar was waiting on U.S. inflation data and a slew of central bank meetings, Reuters reported.

The dollar rose about 0.9% on the yen overnight . At 145.96 yen it is about 3% above a low touched last week after remarks on the challenging outlook from Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda were taken as a hint that a policy shift was imminent.
