The U.S. dollar dropped slightly against the Vietnamese dong Thursday morning.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND24,410 Thursday, down 0.04% from Wednesday.

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV)’s reference rate was stable at VND23,945.

The dollar fell 0.12% to VND24,740 on the black market.

It has increased against the dong by 2.87% since the beginning of the year.

Globally, the dollar was under pressure on Thursday after the Federal Reserve's latest economic projections indicated that the interest-rate hike cycle has come to an end and lower borrowing costs are coming in 2024, Reuters reported.

Both the euro and Japanese yen jumped in response, with the European Central Bank (ECB) preparing to announce its policy decision later on Thursday and the Bank of Japan coming up next week.

The U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, was last 102.87 after dipping as low as 102.77 overnight.
