A Vietnamese man grew suspicious when his teenage daughter appeared beautiful and bore no resemblance to him, leading him to take a DNA test, which ultimately confirmed he was not her biological father.

The man, whose identity remains private, lived in Ho Chi Minh City with his wife, known as Hong, and their daughter, Lan, who was three years old when the family moved to the south for his work, according to the South China Morning Post.

As Lan grew into a teenager, her beauty stood out, yet she bore no resemblance to either parent. This disparity sparked doubts in her father, leading him to conduct a DNA test, which revealed that he was not Lan’s biological father.

Stunned by the findings, he grew distant from his wife and daughter, often returning home intoxicated. One evening, he confronted Hong, accusing her of infidelity. Denying the accusation, Hong took Lan back to Hanoi, where they settled.

Lan’s transfer to a new school in Hanoi unexpectedly uncovered the truth. She befriended a classmate born the same day and in the same hospital as her, which led to a joint birthday party hosted by her friend’s mother. During the celebration, the mother noticed an uncanny resemblance between Lan and herself. This raised suspicions, leading both families to conduct a DNA test, which confirmed that Lan and her friend had been mistakenly swapped at birth by hospital staff.

Commenting on the incident, an online observer noted: "The medical staff made a ridiculous mistake. Fortunately, the truth finally came out. Otherwise, even jumping into the Yellow River could not clear the wife’s name."

Following the revelation, the two families chose to maintain close ties, agreeing to reveal the truth to the girls when the time was right. "The story is really thrilling, like the plot twists in the Korean TV drama 'Autumn in My Heart'," wrote one commenter, while another remarked: "It tells us that if it is not necessary, do not randomly test DNA, as it can just cause yourself unnecessary trouble."
