The dystopian South Korean drama series 'Squid Game’ is the most Googled film this year, along with many other series from South Korea and China.

"Tro Choi Con Muc" (Vietnamese title for 'Squid Game'), which tells a story about contestants in so much debt they end up competing in classic children's games for a $38 million cash prize, topped the list of the most Googled films in Vietnam this year, according to a Google report Wednesday.

Three other South Korean dramas in the top 10 list were: "True Beauty" in second place; "Nevertheless" in fifth place, and "Vincenzo" in eighth.

In 2021, Vietnamese netizens overwhelmingly favored Chinese dramas, which accounted for six spots on the top ten search list.

Chinese drama series "Falling Into Your Smile" came in fourth, followed by "Secrets In The Lattice."

"Once We Get Married" ranked seventh; "Fall In Love" and "You Are My Glory" came in ninth and tenth.

A year of Covid and prolonged lockdowns prompted Vietnamese to pay more attention to online learning and entertainment, according to Google.

"Squid Game" is also one of the most searched keywords in Vietnam this year, Google said.

Last year, South Korean and Chinese dramas also dominated the list of most searched TV shows by Vietnamese netizens.
