Vietnamese coronavirus contact tracing app Bluezone has topped the list of free apps downloaded in the country by iOS users.

It is followed by American messaging app Messenger, Chinese short video platform TikTok and Vietnamese messaging app Zalo, Apple said on December 2.

It did not reveal the number of downloads for each, but according to the Department of Information Technology, Bluezone was downloaded 22.5 million times on iOS and Android devices as of September 8.

On Android devices, the number was more than 10 million.

Health declaration app NCOVI, launched by the government, was in 19th place.

The list also includes Facebook, YouTube, and video telephony app Zoom Cloud Meetings, which was the top app globally, followed by Tik Tok.

Of paid apps in Vietnam, WiFi Master Pro, CamScanner, Forest - Stay focused, NeuralCam NightMode, and TouchRetouch were the most popular.

Bluezone, developed by technology firm Bkav and the Ministry of Information and Communications, is a Bluetooth-based app that helps determine if a person has come into contact with a Covid-19 patient.

The app alerts users if they are at risk of infection and instructs them to contact health authorities. It hit the App Store in April.
