My girlfriend’s parents oppose marriage over my inability to afford a house

I come from a family with modest income in a rural province. At 34 years old, I have been building my career in the Central Highlands town of Buon Ma Thuot for three years, running a woodworking shop and a small restaurant. As the only son with a younger sister in university, I support her education financially.

My girlfriend, 30, comes from a prosperous family. She holds a law degree and is assisting her sister in managing their family’s tutoring center business. Her siblings are also successful, holding respectable jobs with substantial incomes.

We have been together for a year and wish to marry soon. However, my current financial situation only allows me to cover personal expenses, maintain my businesses, and support my sister’s education, making it impossible to purchase a house at this time. I hope to marry and work alongside my girlfriend to improve our circumstances.

Yet, her parents oppose the idea of their daughter living in rented housing or engaging in my type of work.

How should I proceed under these circumstances?
