Who is Chloe San Jose, girlfriend of Filipino Olympic champion Carlos Yulo?

As per Phil News, at 22, San Jose boasts a YouTube channel with over 476,000 subscribers, where she shares her song covers. She also released a single named "Aking Pagmamahal" (My Love) in Jan. 2021, which is dedicated to her boyfriend Carlos.

Besides that, San Jose demonstrates her strong social media presence, with more than 1.1 million followers on TikTok and 136,000 on Instagram. According to the Daily Mail, her posts on these platforms predominantly feature her modeling in various attire, including bikinis, lingerie, and dresses.

Alongside her digital career, she is pursuing a nursing degree.

San Jose’s relationship with Carlos began when she messaged him on X, formerly known as Twitter, in April 2020.

"Hi, I’m a fan," she wrote. "Just came across your account and noticed you’re not as active as before. I hope you’re doing well. Stay safe. God bless."

The gymnast then replied to her: "Hello, hehe. Anyway, I’m doing great here. Thank you. Take care there too and God bless."

Their exchange eventually blossomed into a romance despite the long-distance challenge, with Carlos training in Japan and San Jose studying in Australia at the time. The couple first met in person at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam in 2022.

Since then, San Jose has been a visible supporter of Carlos’ career, as she accompanied him to competitions such as the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series in Qatar and the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics, where her boyfriend secured two gold medals.

However, San Jose’s relationship with Carlos is not fully endorsed by his mother Angelica Poquiz Yulo, who has accused the content creator of exploiting her son and exacerbating tensions between her and the gymnast.

Despite these accusations, Carlos defended San Jose in a TikTok video released on Aug. 6.

"She [Angelica] judges Chloe by the way she acts and dresses," he said in Filipino, as quoted by The Manila Times. "First of all, Chloe was in Australia and grew up in that culture. And it’s very different from how people dress or talk in the Philippines."

He also refuted Angelica’s suspicions of Chloe financially exploiting him, asserting: "Chloe has her own income." "Everything you see her using and all her travels come from her hard work," he added. "There have been instances where Chloe had to support me financially."

Carlos, 24, is recognized as the most accomplished Filipino gymnast to date, reported Forbes.

As the second Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal and the first to secure multiple Olympic golds for the country, Carlos is slated to receive various honors from the Philippine government. Among these incentives is a three-bedroom condo valued at 32 million pesos (US$558,000) in Manila’s McKinley Hill, as reported by Fortune magazine.
