The honorary degrees were granted in acknowledgment of the recipients’ substantial contributions and accomplishments in society. HKUST stated that these awards demonstrate the significant impacts these eminent figures have made in their fields.
In his acceptance speech, delivered in English, Leung reflected on his 42-year career in acting. Despite his initial reservations about speaking at a university function, given his lack of formal university experience, Leung offered profound advice to the graduates.
"First, maintain your original intention with every new role, allowing yourself to feel like a newcomer," he advised, noting that dwelling too much on experience can be limiting.
"Second, always strive to improve and pursue what you love, keeping your passion for your work alive," he continued.
Leung’s wife, Hong Kong actress Carina Lau, was spotted in the audience, wearing a red outfit and visibly supporting her husband.
At 62, Leung is celebrated as one of Asia’s most distinguished and internationally recognized actors. He is especially celebrated for his collaborations with Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, appearing in seven films including "In the Mood for Love," which garnered him the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival.
