According to the South China Morning Post, Wang’s family reached out to the Chinese consulate in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Friday to report the case. They were informed about the procedures for reporting a missing person.

The Bangkok Post stated that Thai authorities in the northern province of Tak have confirmed Wang’s disappearance since he crossed into Myanmar, with Myanmar authorities now searching for him.

However, a police spokesperson indicated on Tuesday that there is currently no evidence suggesting that Wang was forced into Myanmar, and his crossing appeared to be voluntary.

A security source in Tak reported that Thai officials have requested assistance from all Myanmar authorities in locating the actor, who likely crossed the border from Tak’s Mae Sot district, as shown by CCTV footage.

Prior to this, a social media post from Sunday by someone claiming to be Wang’s girlfriend alleged that he vanished under mysterious circumstances after being deceived by individuals posing as film crew members. According to the post, Wang arrived in Bangkok early Friday morning for a film project and was escorted through Thai immigration by someone pretending to be part of the film crew. He was later driven 500 kilometers to Mae Sot, where he subsequently lost contact.

She said she reported Wang’s disappearance to Shanghai police and contacted the Chinese embassy in Bangkok and the consulate in Chiang Mai, who advised her to file a report with the Mae Sot police.

After reports about Wang’s disappearance arose, Chinese actor Xu Dajiu recalled his own similar experience and issued a warning about fraudulent film crews in Thailand. He described being tricked by a fraudulent job advertisement for a drama filmed in Thailand. Upon arrival, he faced attempts to confiscate his passport and found that the film production was non-existent.
