Citing China Press, The Star reports that the hotel, named The Leith Penang, officially opened on Sep. 25. During the ceremony, Yip expressed enthusiasm about her business and announced plans to open three more branches in Penang. She also mentioned her plans to visit Malaysia more often, having established a business presence there.
Yip revealed that she had indulged in local cuisine while in Malaysia, particularly durian, a fruit she adores so much that she arranges for friends to ship it to Hong Kong.
During her stay, Yip indulged in the local cuisine, including durian, a fruit she loves so much that she has it shipped to Hong Kong by friends. Her fondness for Malaysian delicacies was underscored recently when she ordered a 1.8 kg empurau fish, known as Malaysia’s priciest freshwater fish, for a dinner party in Hong Kong.
Yip humorously remarked that she gained 10 pounds (4.5 kg) from her culinary adventures and intends to visit the gym upon her return. She also discussed personal aspects of her visit, noting that friends have suggested she consider finding love in Malaysia. She commended Malaysian men as "honest and good," emphasizing that "chemistry" and respectful treatment are essential qualities she looks for in a partner.
Yip, 58, began her entertainment career as a trainee with the Hong Kong broadcaster Asia Television (ATV), taking on minor television roles after signing a two-year contract in 1985. During her tenure at ATV, she was approached by Raymond Chow, founder of the film production company Golden Harvest, who offered her a position once her contract ended.
Her breakthrough came with the 1990 Category III film "Erotic Ghost Story." She retired from acting in 1997, expressing regret that the nature of her films offered few memorable roles.
Since the 2018 death of her longtime boyfriend, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Sammy Sek Chiu Lui, from a heart attack during a U.S.-bound flight, she has not been involved in any public romantic relationship.
