On Sept. 15, Tin Kai-man, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Film Workers Association, confirmed the deaths of Chui and his wife, according to Oriental Daily.
"I was told that he died of oesophageal cancer. He had not told others he had such a problem and most of his friends in Hong Kong did not know about it. We do not know how long he suffered from it," the South China Morning Post quoted Tin as saying.
"It was very sad. I was also told his wife died shortly after Chui’s funeral arrangements. Possibly Chui’s death left her in pain and depression."

Chui gained fame for playing martial arts heroes in films during the 1970s and 1980s.
In the 1990s, he transitioned to villain roles, notably appearing in films like "King of Beggars" alongside Stephen Chow.
During this period, he shifted his career focus to the mainland Chinese market, where he largely stayed, seldom performing in Hong Kong or participating in local productions.
Chui married his first wife in 1975, and they had a son together, but the couple divorced in 1979.
The following year, he remarried, but that marriage also ended after he had an affair. In 2004, Chui married his last wife, a dancer from China mainland, with whom he had a daughter and a son.
