Hong Kong billionaire Joseph Lau’s wife Kimbee Chan owns 1,000 Hermes bags

Her collection far surpasses those of local celebrities such as actress Rosamund Kwan, who owns about 100, and former Miss Hong Kong Michele Reis, who has around 300, according to Elle Hong Kong.

At a Hong Kong fashion show in September, Chan appeared in the front row carrying with a 2020 edition of the Hermès Smile Bolide 1923 handbag valued at over one million yuan (US$140,000). The rare piece features Hermès’ signature oval silhouette and refined custom details, according to TVBS.

A month earlier, she was seen at singer Sammi Cheng’s concert with a new pink Hermès Kelly bag.

Sources close to Chan revealed that she favors Hermès’ Penguin series, prompting the luxury house to create an exclusive annual production line just for her. Inside her mansion, she reportedly dedicates an entire room to display thousands of Hermès items, with stacks of the brand’s signature orange boxes often visible in her Instagram posts.

Another insider claimed that Chan and Lau together own over 1,500 Hermès bags, earning them a reputation as world-class Hermès collectors. Even their daily outfits are often custom-designed by the brand.

In 2023, the couple collaborated with Sotheby’s on what was described as Asia’s largest Hermès auction, featuring 77 pieces. The highlights included a Kelly wool bag by Jean-Paul Gaultier and a diamond-studded Birkin with a white gold lock encrusted with over 200 diamonds totaling around 10 carats.

Chan married Joseph Lau, born in 1951, in 2016 after his high-profile relationships with several Hong Kong actresses, including Michelle Reis, Rosamund Kwan, and Ada Choi. Forbes ranked Lau as Hong Kong’s fifth-richest man, with an estimated net worth of US$13.1 billion. The couple share six children.
