Citing South Korean news outlet Koreaboo, the Daily Mail reported that the incident, which took place on Tuesday and was captured on video, quickly went viral across Chinese social media platforms. In the footage, Wu is seen being assisted by crew members after fainting.
Wu’s agency later confirmed that her collapse was caused by a combination of extreme exhaustion and harsh weather conditions, noting that she had been overworked in preparation for the show. "Sisters Who Make Waves" often films outdoor performances, which exposes the contestants to the elements and may have contributed to her health issues, they said.
Under a Weibo post about the news, many users expressed their concerns in the comments section.
"My heart hurts," one Weibo user shared.
"This show truly does not deserve Wu Xuanyi’s effort," another commented.
Wu, 30, entered the entertainment industry in 2016 as a member of the South Korean girl group WJSN. She took a hiatus from the group in 2018 to participate in the survival reality show "Produce 101 China," where she finished in second place. This led to her joining the Chinese girl group Rocket Girls 101, which disbanded in 2020.
Following the group’s disbandment, Wu pursued a solo career in China and officially left WJSN in March 2023.
