According to The Star, at one minute and four seconds into the trailer, which was released on Monday, English actress Florence Pugh appears at Medan Pasar, a prominent Kuala Lumpur locale. The background featuring the former Menara HSBC South Tower confirms the setting in Malaysia.

Social media has been abuzz with speculation since June, initiated by a fan account on X that first suggested Pugh was in Kuala Lumpur for the shoot. The speculation intensified after Pugh’s sister Arabella Gibbins posted a photo of the Petronas Twin Towers on Instagram and tagged Pugh.
Pugh herself fueled the rumors by telling Variety magazine in July that she executed a major stunt for "Thunderbolts*" by "jumping off the second tallest building in the world."
Standing at 678.9 meters, Kuala Lumpur’s Merdeka 118 is the second tallest building globally.
Malaysian fans have openly expressed their pride and anticipation.
"I had heard rumors about "Thunderbolts*" filming in Malaysia, but seeing it confirmed has really ramped up the excitement," said Fatin, a local Marvel fan, to StarLifestyle.
She also expressed hope to see more Malaysian landmarks in the film, including the rumored skydiving scene at Merdeka 118.

"Thunderbolts*" is based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name. It is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, slated as the 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film features a group of anti-heroes performing covert operations for the U.S. government and promises to be an exhilarating addition to the Marvel roster. It stars Romanian-American actor Sebastian Stan, American actor David Harbour, and Australian actress Geraldine Viswanathan, along with Pugh, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 2, 2025.
