On the two phones’ launch date, Wednesday, in Vietnam, FPT Shop and The Gioi Di Dong offered the phones at their listed prices of VND24.9 million (US$1,055) and VND27.9 million, respectively.
But now, the two major retailers are selling the yellow iPhone 14 for VND20.9-21.9 million, and the yellow iPhone 14 Plus for VND24.5 million.
Some smaller retailers are selling the two models at even lower prices of around VND20.3 million for the iPhone and VND22.8 million for the Plus.
Despite the discounts, the price of the latest yellow versions is still several hundred thousand dong higher than the same models in other colors.
Retailers are hoping that the new color version will be a ray of light in a gloomy marketplace, and that the discounts will help sales grow at least slightly.
One retail manager said: "The entry prices of all iPhone versions are similar, but retailers adjust prices according to scarcity and market demand. Some retailers accept low profits and reduce prices considerably to spur demand."
In the near future, the prices of the iPhone 14 may no longer differ among color versions, according to the manager.
The iPhone 14 series has been officially available in Vietnam since October 14, 2022. While the Pro and Pro Max versions sold out some months after the launch, sales of the iPhone 14 and Plus versions have been sluggish.
Retailers said the combined sales of the two models account for less than 5% of the total.
After many discounts, iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are currently priced at VND19.8 and VND22.8 million, respectively. The price of the iPhone 14 in Vietnam is one of the cheapest in the world.
