Nguyen Anh Minh climbed 465 places to 463rd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking Thursday, becoming the first Vietnamese to enter the top 500.

In January the 15-year-old first appeared in the rankings thanks to topping both rounds of the national team selection for the 31st SEA Games held in Hanoi in May.

After competing in five tournaments, he climbed to 914th in the list released on June 30, his birthday.

The WAGR is released every Thursday.

Last week Minh ranked 928th just before the Vietnam Amateur Open, but after finishing runner-up, he entered the top 500.

He has had a memorable year winning two pro titles in March and April, the first amateur to win a professional event.

He then finished sixth in the individual event at the SEA Games.
