Vietnam's national goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was accompanied by his girlfriend Yen Xuan as he traveled to Singapore to treat a heel injury.

Lam picked up the injury in the match between Hai Phong FC and Binh Dinh FC in the V. League on Dec. 27. After receiving reports on the injury, head coach Philippe Troussier removed him from Vietnam’s squad for the 2024 Asian Cup in Qatar.

In recent days, Lam and his girlfriend have been seen enjoying the cuisine of Singapore. The couple have been dating since 2018. Xuan is currently a personal trainer.

Lam hopes to recover in time when V. League returns in February. Before getting injured, the 30-year-old keeper displayed an impressive performance, making a major contribution to Binh Dinh’s second place in V. League with 16 points, three behind Nam Dinh FC. Since the beginning of the season, Lam has claimed three clean sheets. In the last three matches of V. League, he only conceded once.

With Lam’s absence, Vietnamese-Czech goalkeeper Filip Nguyen will likely be the main man for the national team at the Asian Cup.

Vietnam will enter the tournament with an opening match against Japan on Jan. 14.

Lam was born to a Vietnamese father and a Russian mother. He spent his youth career at Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Moscow. In 2011, he returned to Vietnam to play for Hoang Anh Gia Lai. After unsuccessful spells in Laos and Russia, his career finally took off when he joined Hai Phong FC in 2015. Over the next few years, he attained excellent form, was called up to the national team, and became their number one choice.
