Vietnamese football aims to qualify for 2030 World Cup

The Vietnam Football Federation has set goals for national teams in the next four years, which include qualifying for the 2030 World Cup.

The men's national team will strive for a spot among the top 10 teams of Asia, a place in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Asian Cup and the last qualification round of the 2026 World Cup, moving closer to realizing their 2030 World Cup dream, VFF officials said Sunday.

The national men's football team advance tod the last qualification round of the 2022 World Cup for the first time in history. Despite elimination, coach Park Hang-seo and his team defeated China and drew against Japan, solidifying their place as the number one squad in Southeast Asia.

VFF also set the goal for the team to make it to the AFF Cup finals in 2022, 2024 and 2026 and win at least once.

The goal for the U23 team is to claim the SEA Games gold medal again in 2022 and 2025. Under coach Park, the U23s have won gold twice in 2019 and 2022. The team are also assigned to qualify and progress at the U23 Asian Cup in 2024 and 2026. At the U23 Asian Cup 2022, coach Gong Oh-kyun took the team past the group stage before losing to champions Saudi Arabia.

The national women's team have already qualified for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with the goal of making a good impression at the tournament. The team are also assigned to win the next Women’s AFF Cup and defend their SEA Games gold medal in 2023 and 2025.

For the national futsal team, the biggest goal is to qualify for the 2024 Futsal World Cup.
