The general impression is that Viettel FC will face lightweight opponents at the AFC Cup group stage, but the club have to be careful because this year's format is different.

Unlike the AFC Champions League, the 2022 AFC Cup group stage will only have one leg and all games will be played at a central venue.

Viettel will face Young Elephants (Laos) on June 24, Phnom Penh Crown (Cambodia) on the 27th and Hougang United (Singapore) three days later.

These three teams are considered weaker than Viettel, but the capital club cannot let their guard down.

Eighty percent of the Young Elephants are also members of the Laos national football team and they are in good form. They have been unbeaten in five games and are table toppers in the Laos League this year.

Cambodian champions last year, Phnom Penh Crown are also an opponent that Viettel have to be careful with. They are the most decorated team in the Cambodian Premier League with seven titles and boast many national players in their squad.

Singapore's Hougang United, who finished third in the Singapore Premier League last year, are also opponents that cannot be brushed off. Just like Young Elephants and Phnom Penh Crown, Hougang also have many national players in the squad and will be Viettel FC’s main competitor in the group stage.
