Forward Huynh Nhu, captain of the Vietnam national women's football team, is set to join Portuguese club Lank FC.

Nhu flew to Portugal on Monday and if she passes her medical, will sign a two-year contract with Lank, competing in top division Campeonato Feminino.

After winning the Women's National Cup with HCMC I on Sunday, Nhu said she is aware of the challenges awaiting her abroad.

"I have received much advice. There are people who said I need to learn from the male players who had unsuccessful spells abroad in the past. But recently, Nguyen Quang Hai has left a good impression in France. I hope that my image, as well as Vietnamese football, will thrive overseas and there will be more and more female players that can play football abroad," Nhu said.

When Lank were still in the second division, the club offered contracts to Huynh Nhu, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung and Pham Hai Yen, but due to Covid-19 and personal reasons, those players chose to stay in Vietnam. Lank just got promoted to the top division this season and if the club can keep a good form, they might obtain a slot in UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Nhu is one of the most decorated female footballers in Vietnam. She has won seven national championships and three National Cup titles. She's also the recipient of four Vietnam Golden Ball awards.

She has won three SEA Games gold medals and one AFF Cup title with the national team. She's also the most prolific scorer on the team with 59 goals.

Playing in Europe will prepare Nhu well as she will captain the national team in Women’s World Cup next year.
