Vietnam are guaranteed to get US$200,000 when they play the group stage of this year's Asian Cup in Qatar and that number will increase if they go further in the tournament.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that the total prize pool of the Asian Cup this year is $14.8 million. The winner gets $5 million, the runner-up receives $3 million and the defeated teams in the semifinals get $1 million each.

24 teams that entered the group stage will receive $200,000 each.

The teams are divided into six groups of four. The top two teams of each group will move on, along with four out of six third-placed teams that have the best results.

In the Asian Cup this year, Vietnam will face Japan on Jan. 14, Indonesia on the 19th and Iraq on the 24th.

The team of head coach Philippe Troussier began their training for the Asian Cup on Dec. 31.

The team will fly to Qatar on Jan. 5 and get used to the weather and stadium there. They will play one friendly match on Jan. 9 against Kyrgyzstan before announcing the final squad list.
