Coach Park Hang-seo was satisfied with Vietnamese players' determination as they came back to win 2-1 against German giant Borussia Dortmund in an exhibition match Wednesday night.

"Can't say that the result is not important in this match. We are a national team, we have to maintain our image," Park said in the press conference after the match in Hanoi.

Dortmund started the game strong and it only took them 13 minutes to open the scoring thanks to Dutch striker Donyell Malen. After the opener, the Bundesliga club wasted many scoring chances and let Vietnam equalized with Nguyen Tien Linh's goal.

In the second half, both teams played attacking football and created many chances. Nguyen Van Toan and Ha Duc Chinh could not beat Dortmund goalie Marcel Lotka one on one, while Ole Pohlmann's shot hit the woodwork of Vietnam. Five minutes before the game ended, Soumalia Coulibaly fouled Vu Van Thanh inside the box and brought Vietnam the penalty, which was successfully taken by Pham Tuan Hai.

"Hai is a new player. He is a midfielder at his club, but in this game he played well as a striker. Hai has a good mentality and always understands the assignment. I can count on him. For Tien Linh, I don't need to say much because he was an excellent striker in V. League," Park said.

Hai was one of Park's experiments in the game, where he tested several players in new roles. Center-back Que Ngoc Hai took the position of a defensive midfielder, while midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc dropped back to play like a defender.

Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic was disappointed withhis club wasting many chances.

"Congratulations Vietnam. You had a great night," Terzic said.

"We have had a great time in Vietnam, the people here are amazing and they welcomed Dortmund with love. I hope we can come back here again," he added.

Dortmund did not bring the best squad in this game as many of their key players are playing at the 2022 World Cup and some were injured like captain Marco Reus. Coach Terzic only used three star players Mats Hummels, Salih Ozcan and Donyell Malen for the lineup and the rest were young players.

After the game with Dortmund, Vietnam will continue training to prepare for the 2022 AFF Cup in December.
