Three Hai Phong football fans were detained for setting off flares during a football match at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi last week.

Dong Da District Police said on August 8 that Nguyen Trung Hieu, 20, Le Van Tung, 34, and Do Minh Sang, 21, were detained on charges of disturbing public order.

On August 2, the match between Hanoi FC and Hai Phong FC took place at Hang Day Stadium. According to the authorities, in the 34th minute when Hai Phong equalized, Hieu threw a flare into a fenced area. After that, flares were lit up in another stand.

A flare also caused second-degree burns on the thigh of a 6-year-old fan at the stadium before kick-off.

Around 9 p.m. when the match was about to end, Sang threw a flare which caused disorder. The police present quickly put out the flares and got the situation under control.

Previously this season, Hanoi FC and Hai Phong were fined VND20 million ($842.53) for a similar incident in the V-League. Since 2015, Hanoi FC have paid a total fine of VND600 million for letting fans bring flares into Hang Day Stadium and use them, while Hai Phong has been fined VND370 million.
