Head coach of Portugal Francisco Neto said Portugal will crack the defense system of Vietnam by shooting as much as possible in the Women’s World Cup game on Thursday.

"Portugal will keep possession, try to get the ball to the other side, flexible in offense and produce as many shots as we can," Neto told Portuguese newspaper Sapo about the strategy for the upcoming game with Vietnam.

"The players have to keep running, create space for attacks and find positions for effective finishing."

This is Portugal’s first World Cup, as with Vietnam. In the first round of group E, Portugal lost 1-0 to defending runner-ups the Netherlands while Vietnam lost 3-0 to defending champions and world number one the U.S.

Neto revealed that the coaches and players have studied Vietnam’s playing style by reviewing their most recent games.

After losing the first match, Portugal will have to win the remaining two matches to move on.

The game between Portugal and Vietnam will take place at Hamilton Stadium. This is an advantage for Portugal because they played here in their 3-2 World Cup play-off win against Cameroon.

"We are familiar with this stadium. It’s like Portugal’s home ground and we will try to use it to our advantage," Neto added.

The game with Vietnam will start at 2:30 p.m. Hanoi time and be reported live by VnExpress International.
