Marco Reus and Mats Hummels, two of Dortmund's biggest stars, stirred up the atmosphere as soon as they set foot inside Noi Bai International Airport on Tuesday. The two signed autographs and took photos with fans before getting on the bus. They also received Vietnamese conical hats as gifts.
Dang Giang, a member of a Dortmund fan club in Hanoi, said: "I have been a Dortmund fan since 2010 and I had never thought one day I would get to see the players in person."
Dtan Chayada and some other Dortmund fans in Thailand were also at the airport to see their favorite club.
"I came to Vietnam to watch the game between Dortmund and Vietnam. I've been a Dortmund fan for about 20 years. The fans here are really passionate, which really impresses me," Chayada said.
Dortmund brought a crew of 123 members, including players, coaches and staff to Vietnam. Captain Reus and his teammates will attend meetings with fans before a training session at My Dinh National Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, which will be free for spectators.
The friendly between Vietnam's national team and Dortmund will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at My Dinh.
