The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) published a 1,500-word post on Monday on the journey of coach Park Hang-seo with Vietnamese football, calling him "a lasting legacy."

Park ended his five-and-a-half-year stint with Vietnamese football after Vietnam finished as runners-up at the AFF Cup 2022 on January 16, losing to Thailand.

His contract with Vietnam Football Federation ends on January 31 and he decided not to renew it.

With Park at the helm, Vietnamese football went through "a period of unprecedented success" both at senior and U-23 levels, the AFC said.

The post recapped on how Park took Vietnam to new heights, starting with the rise of a new generation for players at the 2018 AFC U23 Asian Cup in China, when Vietnam knocked Qatar out on penalties to enter the final for the first time in any AFC tournament.

Park continued to lead Vietnam to many other historic moments at the AFF Cup, the Asian Cup, SEA Games and the World Cup qualifiers.

"Park now steps down after taking the Vietnam team and his passionate fans on a journey like no other and one that ensures he will forever be regarded as a legend in the Southeast Asian nation," AFC said.
