In a weather forecast report issued Tuesday for the period from September 2023 to February 2024, the center stated that the East Sea may see five to seven more storms and tropical depressions between the end of August and November, with two or three of them directly impacting Vietnam.
From December 2023 to February 2024, there would be one or two storms or tropical depressions active on the East Sea, and they may affect central and southern Vietnam regions.
Heat waves would continue to be seen in central Vietnam in the latter half of August. While the heat may remain in central Vietnam in September, it would be lessened and would not last long, the center said.
From September to October, average temperatures across the entire country would be 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than the average temperatures in previous years. In November, average temperatures might be 0.5-1.5 degrees higher than the average temperatures in previous years.
Rain levels in northern Vietnam in September would be 5-10% higher than the average levels in previous years. From October to November, rain levels in the north would be roughly the same as in previous years. Northeastern regions and the plains however would see rain levels 10-20% higher than in previous years.
Central Vietnam would see rain levels in September roughly the same as in previous years, while rain levels in October and November are expected to be 10-25% lower than in previous years. The northern parts of central Vietnam however would see rain levels in November to be roughly the same as in previous years.
The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam would see rain levels in September about 5-10% higher than in previous years. Rain levels in October would be roughly the same as in previous years, while November would see rain levels around 10-20% lower than in previous years.
Northern Vietnam was hit by storm Talim in mid-July, although there was no severe damage caused. Prolonged heavy rains at the end of the month yet brought floods and landslides that killed six people and damaged hundreds of houses in southern and Central Highlands provinces.
