Vietnam approves IELTS One Skill Retake

The Ministry of Education and Training on Wednesday gave approval for IELTS to allow candidates to improve their scores in individual skills without taking the whole test again.

The ministry has called on the British Council and IDP Education, the two agencies that organize IELTS exams in Vietnam, to publicly announce details about the one skill retake (OSR) function.

OSR was introduced at the end of 2022 for IELTS examinees to improve their scores in just one of listening, reading, speaking, or writing and is available in 30 countries and territories.

Examinees can retake a test in one skill within 60 days from their original test date.

The fee is VND3.5-5.4 million ($140-216), but the British Council Vietnam and IDP Education have yet to announce the rate in Vietnam.

The average IELTS score for Vietnamese is 6.2 out of 9.0, putting them in 23rd place globally.
