Dollar shoots up against dong on Lunar New Year day

The U.S. dollar surges over the Vietnamese dong on the black market Sunday morning, the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Unofficial exchange points sold the greenback at VND23,610, up 0.51% from Saturday.

Banks kept their rates unchanged from the beginning of the holiday.

The rate at Vietcombank is VND23,620, Eximbank VND23,640, and Techcombank VND23,635.

The State Bank of Vietnam’s reference rate remained at VND23,605.

The dollar has fallen against the dong 0.46% since the beginning of the year.
