The U.S. dollar gained slightly against the Vietnamese dong Monday morning but remained steady at banks.

Unofficial exchange points sold the greenback at VND23,500, up up 0.09% from Sunday.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND23,610 for the fifth straight session.

Eximbank and Techcombank maintained their rates at VND23,580 and VND23,605, respectively.

The State Bank of Vietnam kept its reference rate unchanged at VND23,601.

The U.S. dollar Index, which measures the greenback’s strength against major currencies, hovered around 101.84 points, the lowest since May last year.

"A U.S. dollar downtrend is well in train here, and I think there’s more to come," said Ray Attrill, head of FX strategy at National Australia Bank.
