Toyota Vietnam's top car seller in four years

Toyota has been the best-selling brand in Vietnam’s major auto markets for the last four years.

Between January 2019 and January 2023, Hanoi recorded the country’s biggest car sales at 211,491 units, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 167,643 units, according to registration and re-registration data collected by VnExpress.

Toyota was the most popular brand in the capital with 40,376 units sold, accounting for 19.09% of total.

The Japanese juggernaut was followed by Korea’s Hyundai, Kia and Mazda.

Hanoi was also home to the highest number of VinFast cars sold, accounting for 17,651 units.

In Ho Chi Minh Cay, Toyota was clearly the favorite brand with 39,758 units sold, double that of second-place Mitsubishi as 16,603 units.

Hyundai came third, followed by Kia and Ford.

Dong Nai Province, which ranks third in car sales nationwide, saw 12,812 Toyota units sold in the period, followed by Hyundai and Kia.

Toyota was also the best-selling brand in Binh Duong Province with 14,084 units sold, double that of the Hyundai in second place at 7,363 units.

Nghe An was the only major locality in which Toyota didn’t lead the pack: Hyundai can in first place with 11,920 units sold, while Toyota trailed in second place at 9,895 sales.

Nghe An’s next biggest sellers were Kia, Honda and VinFast, respectively.
